The Strategic Thinking Process: Are You Asking the Right Questions?

Thursday, November 7
The Westin Richmond

Registration is now closed. Please contact VSAE with any questions or concerns.

Strategic thinking is often neglected in organizational dynamics; we know it's important, but frequently, it doesn't receive the attention it deserves. Too often, strategic thinking is viewed as interchangeable with strategic planning, yet nothing could be further from the truth. Strategic planning begins with goals in mind and seeks solutions to an already derived set of questions. On the other hand, strategic thinking is a blank canvas devoid of initial goals and is designed to ensure the organization is asking itself the right questions. Strategic thinking and strategic planning are complementary processes that represent the difference between leadership and management, effectiveness and efficiency, and transforming and incremental change.

In this learn-by-doing familiarization, attendees will engage in a Micro Strategic Thinking Exercise using the TSWG method, leveraging their experience and knowledge to develop an initial plan to increase association membership.

Raffle tickets will be sold at the event to raise money for this worthy cause at the event. The charity raffle winner receives "A Day at the Races” for two at Virginia International Raceway plus a food credit to onsite food venues.
