Common Questions from NOVA Association Professionals

If your work for a national or international association, its natural to question the value of belonging to a state association. Here are the questions we commonly hear (and answers to them):

I'm already an ASAE member, how is VSAE different?
Like ASAE, VSAE provides professional development programs, connections with fellow association professionals and volunteer opportunities. And the fact is many VSAE members are also ASAE members.

VSAE members find additional value in the closeness and support of the VSAE community. At VSAE, its very easy to get involved and make connections immediately with your fellow association executives. VSAE events are sized to allow for more face-face engagement and relationship building.

VSAE is also a smart investment for earning or maintaining your CAE. VSAE is an approved CAE provider, meaning all VSAE learning qualifies for CAE credits. You'll also benefit from low registration fees, minimal (if any) travel expense and less time away from home and office. VSAE also offers a virtual CAE study group twice annually for those planning to sit for the CAE exam; it is free to VSAE members ($150 non-members).

What do I have in common with someone who is with a state association?

Actually, quite a lot! The challenges facing association professionals and their organizations are often the same - tight budgets, inadequate resources and limited time. This is especially true for smaller nonprofits and associations.

VSAE provides opportunities to connect, learn and share with association professionals with issues similar to yours, both at an individual level and through our shared interest groups (SIGs). In addition, our education and professional development programs provide ideas and solutions that are practical and adaptable for those with limited budgets and staffing.

VSAE is based in Richmond, how does it connect with NOVA?

VSAE hosts events across Virginia, including quarterly in-person learning and networking events in NOVA. Many VSAE programs are offered hybrid and virtually, including our Spring and Fall CAE Study Groups (offered free of charge to members) and our monthly seminars.
