Kick off the new year with VSAE's most popular monthly seminar! The expert on all things Virginia politics, Dr. Bob Holsworth, with DecideSmart, will enlighten us with his analysis of the upcoming General Assembly session and prognosis for 2025 statewide elections and how both could impact Virginia's associations and memberships.
Joining Dr. Holsworth will be Mary Kate Cunningham, Chief Public Policy and Governance Officer, ASAE to discuss what to expect in Washington post-election. Learn about potential tax change policies that could impact 501(c)(3) and 501(c)6 organizations and advocacy efforts on workforce development efforts to help build up all industries and professions while increasing access to career-building credentials and skills training.

Presenters
Dr. Bob Holsworth is a Managing Partner at DecideSmart, a company that focuses on enabling innovation to succeed. His observations on national and Virginia politics have appeared in The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The New York Times, and numerous other papers and news magazines. Dr. Holsworth was the founding Director of both the Center for Public Policy and the Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs at Virginia Commonwealth University. He was the Executive Director of the Governor’s Commission on Efficiency and Effectiveness. He has been the Director of the Virginia Executive Institute and Co-Staff Director of the Commission on the Future of Virginia’s Urban Areas, a gubernatorial commission that examined how Virginia’s urban areas could become flourishing parts of regional economies.
Mary Kate Cunningham, CAE is an award-winning lobbyist who serves as the Senior Vice President of Public Policy at ASAE: The Center for Association Leadership. Mary Kate serves as the chief advocate for ASAE’s more than 50,000 members before Congress and policy stakeholders. She has grown an effective, results-oriented advocacy team; garnered bipartisan support for association issues on the Hill; and expanded ASAE’s grassroots network. Throughout her ten years in ASAE leadership, Mary Kate has reinforced associations’ unique spot at the intersection of U.S. economy and public service by spearheading workforce development initiatives to benefit both American workers and the American economy. She was recognized by The Hill and by the National Institute for Lobbying & Ethics as a 2023 and 2021 Top Lobbyist. Originally from Arizona, she earned an M.A. from the National Defense University and a B.A. from The Catholic University of America. She is a Certified Association Executive and serves as an officer on the board of directors for the Tax Coalition. She is a member of the ASAE Retirement Trust Committee.

The VSAE Community Service Committee has selected Girls on The Run as this month's charity recipient. Girls on the run is dedicated to creating a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams. They inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.
Raffle tickets will be sold at the event to raise money for this worthy cause at the event. The charity raffle winner receives a 2-night mid-week overnight stay at Caesars Virginia, with a $150 meal credit.
