Community Kitchen

The Community Kitchen is a state-of-the-art production facility that provides meals for thousands of vulnerable children, seniors and homebound neighbors in Central Virginia. Built in 2007 in a collaborative effort by the Central Virginia Food Bank and Meals on Wheels Serving Central Virginia, the bright, bustling and colorful Community Kitchen encompasses all the sights, sounds, tastes, textures and smells of meals being planned and executed with skill.

Each day our team of culinary professionals, along with an army of committed volunteers, create dishes that are both nutritious and appealing. The end results are thousands of healthy, delicious meals for neighbors in need who cannot provide or prepare them for themselves.

Volunteers will be assisting in the Community Kitchen with preparing sandwiches, packing, food prep, cleaning, or other tasks as assigned by the staff.

Task & Skills:

• Must be able to stand for a period of up to 4 hours.
• Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds and be able to work in a cool room.
• Must be able to follow directions and have the ability to work independently.
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.

Dress Code:

• To comply with Health Dept. regulations- Please leave hoop earrings, large rings, watches, and bracelets at home or in your purse prior to your shift at the kitchen.
• Closed toed, flat, comfortable shoes are required - no heels.
• Clean jeans, t-shirts, or sweatshirts and sneakers are standard attire.
• No shorts, sleeveless t-shirts, or tops please!
• Aprons, food service gloves, and hairnets will be provided.
• Volunteers are required to secure long hair in a hairnet or cap, or you may bring your own baseball cap.
