Volunteer at the Church of the Holy Comforter for CARITAS (Congregations Around Richmond Involved to Assure Shelter) night.  Join us for an evening of great food (some provided by you), great fellowship, a little service work and a lot of fun! Be sure to start shopping now for small gifts to donate game prizes such as mouthwash (no alcohol), journals with pens/pencils, puzzle books, unusual card or puzzle games, and small women's skin care products.

Schedule:

4:30 - Arrival
6:00 - Dinner - approx 45 women + up to 5 volunteers
7:00 - Games & Clean Up

Homelessness isn't a lifestyle, it's an emergency. On any given night about 1,000 people in the greater Richmond area are experiencing homelessness. and for many, CARITAS was the only place they could turn.

CARITAS is Richmond's largest emergency shelter, sheltering up to 110 people per night, and over 1,000 people annually. We provide over 90% of the shelter beds available to single women. The hard work of 15,000 volunteers and 155 host congregations creates a safe and hospitable place for our most vulnerable citizens. Upon entering CARITAS, guests find not only the necessities for survival -- they find the tools for success. Through the growing web of CARITAS volunteers, staff, and agency partners, guests get the help they need to get off the street, back on their feet, and on the path to self-sufficiency.

But none of this can be done without your help. CARITAS needs your support, and together, we can bring an end to homelessness in our city and restore productive, healthy lives.

Dinner:

In the past, the group of volunteers has put together a very nice meal for those we serve this evening. There is a full kitchen available for warming dishes if needed.  The menu might end up being something like this.  Be sure to enter your contribution in the Google Sheet link found in your confirmation email.

• Salad with variety of dressings
• Main Dish - Sloppy Joes or Rotisserie Chicken
• Rolls to accent the main dish
• Side Dishes - mac 'n cheese, roasted or mashed potatoes, and green beans
• Dessert - variety of brownies, cupcakes, and cookies

Dress:

Please wear something fun and festive (not fancy) to put everyone in joyful holiday spirits (or wear your VSAE Community Service T-shirt).  We will plan to offer several games of Winter Bingo after dinner while the kitchen is being cleaned up.
