Seminar - Being Strategic About Your Strategic Planning

It is what you do before you do what you do that makes the difference. Join John Sarvay and Lesley Bruno from Floricane as they blow up the typical approach to strategic planning. During this interactive session, participants will work their way through the nine utterly essential questions every organization should answer before starting strategic planning.

Learn how to determine what type of planning process is right for your organization, and how to set up staff and board members for successful implementation, or not. You will be invited to share perspective from your unique experiences and will work in pairs and individually to answer the nine questions. The Floricane team will share case studies from their client work, including samples from VSAE’s recent strategic planning process.

Luncheon - Building Organizational Resiliency

The simple definition of resiliency is the ability to recover from disruptive change. We also like the idea of residency being an ability to grow and progress after being stretched out of shape. John and Lesley will introduce the concept of organizational resilience, and provide perspectives, ideas and tools to help you cultivate resiliency with individuals and leaders, teams and members. You’ll leave with a more positive perspective on the power of change, and new approaches to helping the people most critical to your organization adapt, change and thrive!

About the Speaker

John Sarvay is Floricane’s blue sky thinker – challenging both clients and our own team to make big ideas better, and good ideas bigger. He displays a unique ability to weave together seemingly disparate ideas to help groups of people see their challenges in new ways. John has more than two decades of experience in leadership and team development, facilitation, and strategic planning and communications. He has worked in academia and for Fortune 500 corporations. He founded Floricane in 2008 after a decade of leadership development, facilitation and strategic communication work for Richmond-based Luck Companies.

Lesley Bruno is a strategic planning consultant and recovering communications professional. She enjoys breaking things and putting them back together, and will let you decide whether or not that’s a metaphor. After many years of managing communications, marketing, and PR for nonprofits and educational institutions all over the mid-Atlantic, she now serves organizations in a different way: by determining what they need to achieve their missions and putting the pieces in place to get them there.

• Payment can be made by credit card using our online registration link above or by mailing a check payable to VSAE using the printable registration form.

• A replacement from the same organization may attend the lunch if the member is unable to attend. Please contact the registrar for assistance.

• Staff & Non-Member Attendance. Staff of a member or a non-member is limited to attending 3 meetings per year.

• Luncheon Pass. A member's “Get Out of Jail Free” pass is only worth $14 and is therefore not valid for on-site registrations.

• Cancellation Policy.

• Pre-registrations for lunch who cancel after Tuesday before the meeting at 5:00 p.m. or fail to attend will be invoiced for a no-show fee of $14.

• No refunds for cancellation.

• Substitutions are allowed.
